  • TEA requires each district to adopt a local policy around GPA Calculation Method to be used for the purposes of determining class rank. SB 1191 if adopted will change this but final determinations have not been made by TEA at this time.

    Ranch Academy uses a straight line exact GPA Calculation method, this is due to our low class sizes. All advanced, honors, dual credit, AP, etc. classes receive an additional 1 point bump in the calculation of the GPA.

    Standard GPA Calculation Table.

    100=4.0 90=3.0 80=2.0 70=1.0

    99=3.9 89=2.9 79=1.9 69=0.9

    98=3.8 88=2.8 78=1.8 68=0.8

    97=3.7 87=2.7 77=1.7 67=0.7

    96=3.6 86=2.6 76=1.6 66=0.6

    95=3.5 85=2.5 75=1.5 65=0.5

    94=3.4 84=2.4 74=1.4 64=0.4

    93=3.3 83=2.3 73=1.3 63=0.3

    92=3.2 82=2.2 72=1.2 62=0.2

    91=3.1 81=2.1 71=1.1 61=0.1

  • It is important to understand currently there is no “Standard GPA” for Texas Public Schools. The Ranch Academy local GPA is used solely to determine class rank locally.

    Other institutions requesting students GPA will use their method to calculate it. If you are submitting a GPA, you should recalculate it prior to submitting. Most admissions counselors will do this for you.

    Example how GPA methods differ:

    Other institutions may use variations of a Grade Point Grouping method. Their chart of raw scores might be like this:
    100-90 = 4 points
    89-80 = 3 points
    79-75 = 2 points
    74-65 = 1 Point

    If a student received a total average raw score of 94, that would be a 4 point average for them but a 3.4 with Ranch Academy. On the other end of the scale a 74 with them might be worth 1 points and Ranch Academy would be 1.4 points.
